Lobster Landing

I know it's not hunting or squirrels, but I thought it might interest the anti's that I do more in my spare time than hunting and shooting. I started oil painting last year, and just finished this 2' x 3' painting of my favorite seafood spot in the area. My next painting will be another in the series of my favorite hunting spots.

Hey that is really really nice. How many hours do you think you have in it? asked by a former artist..

Thanks. That's really difficult for me to say because I usually paint only a couple hours at a time after work. I paint a couple hrs in my basement, then bring it upstairs and put it on a shelf I set up in my livingroom. I'll look at it for a few days while the paint dries and think through what's working and what isn't. Then back downstairs for another couple of hours... I might have a total of a couple days into it because I'm painting while I'm down there, laying paint and not standing there thinking through what's next.

Well anyway... I think you really have the light and shadows working. For me you seem to have captured the brightness of the place. One more question if you don't mind. Are you working from a photo?

Thanks yeah I did go down there and took some photos and that's where I work off of.

That should read that's what I worked off of.

Did you go to art school or college?

I went to 5 years at the Paier College of art after my tour in the Navy.

Ex Navy here as well. I did some painting for awhile but defaulted back to photography as painting just consumed more time than I have the patience for. I do like this painting...have you tried or considered making sales?

But hey, who cares what the antis think? I've long since given up trying to reason with them. They're impervious to facts and logic. Trump ripped the mask off the left. I have yet to encounter an anti that isn't a leftist prog and I now consider all progs implacable enemies of my country. They've made it clear that moving forward no accommodation, reconciliation, or compromise is possible on any front...as has long been the case on the gun front.

I was just the opposite. I started studying photography when I got out of the Navy. 4x5 view camera, zone system landscape photographer. Met Ansel Adams... Ran out of money and needed to make a living so I returned to the Paier College of Art for 4 more years as a Graphic Communication major. Worked as an Art Director for 3 years, airbrush illustrator for 13 years and then a corporate sign designer for the next 22. I'm not selling my painting, not yet anyway. I put my own work on the shelf all my adult life to support my family. I started painting last year to see if I had anything in me. This is my personal search and I don't want money impacting what I'm painting. I also won't paint if I don't feel like it. It's something I do when I'm not hunting. Hope to retire in two years. Then I'll have much more time to spend on it. Thanks for your comment and your military service.

I remain very interested in the field and its application professionally. I love the work of illustrators like N.C. Wyeth. I used to subscribe to Step-by-Step Graphics until it ceased being what I considered a useful publication. But I was never good enough to make any money at it.

Heard of Jordan Peterson? University of Toronto professor. He describes what we're up against: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPojltjv4M0

I'm really just learning the rifle and appreciate the information on your site...I've had them nearly all my life but until recently I mostly shot handguns and shotguns and never got into any precision shooting....just plinking for the most part with 22s...and a couple of deer hunts in high school. Most of my hunting was with the shotgun...ducks, geese, quail, and dove....and I shot a lot of skeet.
